Concern about Living Health and Well-being

Introduction

Among all 17 goals proposed in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) calling for action by all countries, I care most about the third one: To ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. As there is an old saying well-known in China: The body is the capital of revolution. Only with great health and well-being can human being act successfully in ending poverty, building economic growth and addressing a range of social needs. In order to pursue sustainable development, it is primary and of great significance to ensure healthy lives as well as promote the well-being at all ages.

Figure 1 the importance of health [1]

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Therefore, the wellness of modern people includes physical health, mental health, social health, intellectual health, moral health, environmental health, etc. Health is not only a human right, but also the most precious asset in human life. [2]

Background [3]

So far, significant progress has been made in extending life expectancy and decreasing some of the common killers associated with child and maternal mortality.

However, here are some facts and figures in the following, showing that there are still many more efforts needed to thoroughly eradicate various diseases and address many different persistent and emerging health problems.

Child Health

Figure 2 the healthy children [4]

Compared to 1990, 17,000 fewer children die each day. Since 2000, measles vaccines have prevented nearly 15.6 million deaths. However, more than five million children still die before their fifth birthday each year. And deaths of children under age five account for four out of every five in Sub-Saharan Africa and Southern Asia.

Public researches demonstrate facts that children born into poverty are almost twice as likely to die before the age of five as those from wealthier families, and children of educated mothers are more likely to survive than children of mothers with no education.

Since 2000, maternal mortality has fallen by 37%. In developing regions, antenatal care increased from 65% in 1990 to 83% in 2012, indicating that more and more women are receiving antenatal care.

However, in developing regions, the maternal mortality ratio (that is, the proportion of mothers that do not survive childbirth compared to those who do) is still 14 times higher than that of developed regions, and only half of women have access to the recommended medical treatment.

HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Other Diseases

Today, the global incidence of malaria is estimated to have dropped by 37% and mortality has fallen by 58%. In the most recent 2017, 36.9 million people worldwide were infected with HIV, and 940,000 people died of AIDS-related diseases.

HIV remains the leading cause of death among women of childbearing age worldwide, and AIDS is now the leading cause of death among adolescents in Africa and the second most common cause of death in the world.

Targets

The 10 main targets below are extracted from 13 objects mentioned in ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages [3], which is highly concerned to be achieved by 2030.

Strategies

There are multiple strategies can contribute to good health and well-being. The first is that individuals promote and protect the health of themselves and those around them by making informed choices, having safe sex, and vaccinating their children. The second is to raise awareness in communities about the importance of good health, healthy lifestyles and people’s right to quality medical services, especially for the most vulnerable groups such as women and children. The third is asking governments, local leaders and other policy makers to take responsibility for their commitment to improve people’s access to health and health services. [7]

  1. Oh! I care most about Goal 3 too! And I have learned a lot from your article. It’s a very comprehensive review, which covers not only the current situations, but also the targets and strategies. You have classifed the wellness into certain types and detailed them into the ‘Background’ Chapter. That’s what I didn’t know before reading your article. Besides, I really like the figure 5 which shows 10 main targets for good health and well-being. It’s very clear and vivid. By the way, I love your blog layout, hahaha…

    1. Wow! Looks like we are on the same wavelength haha… Happy to hear my post has helped you know more about health especially its state in the world. I think it’s of great significance that we should always keep our eyes on the current worldwide health status. Also appreciated that you like my figure 5 and blog layout. It really took me a lot of time😊

  2. You have mentioned children health, maternal health and AIDS in your blog, I guess you think a very important part of public health is related to reproductive. Whether children can be bred and raised in a healthy way affects the foundation of world development, as well as the economy in your introduction. The data you present in your blog surprised me, I can’t imagine so many maternal died and such amount children passed away every year. Despite many challenges, I hope that maternal and children will be more concerned.

    1. Yes, you’re right! Reproductive health is exactly an important part of global health, and everyone should pay attention to it. And according to world statistics, the wellnese status of children and mothers is still not optimistic so that the whole world should spare more effort to realize good health and well-being for human.

  3. I like your blog style! I also like your color mix and layout! It’s so cute and colorful! You must have spent a lot of time on this blog.
You told me a lot of health knowledge, especially those 10 goals. I think society is giving us a lot of health help and care, but the more basic thing is that everyone should pay attention to their health. So I feel like going to bed now! Hahahaha. What a “wise” choice.😁

    1. Haha smart Luman! Better go to bed early every day o😄Besides, thanks for your apreciation and you got me (the design really took me time😂). And I share the same idea with you, health is the thing that everyone should think highly of and strat positive action from themselves.

  4. Wow, your site is so delicate. Respect. This article is very comprehensive and well-organized. Health is the prerequisite of anything else, so more importance should be attached to health improvement. The analysis about three different kinds of health is very clear and impressive. Really learned a lot.

  5. Seeing the topic you chose, combined with everyone’s situation today, I am very touched. Now the whole of China and even the whole world are in crisis due to the epidemic. I have seen so many examples of broken families in the news that broke my heart and realized that health is the most precious asset.
You analyzed from several main factors that threaten human health: Child Health, Mental Health, HIV / AIDS, Malaria and Other Diseases. It can be said that each of them is an issue that urgently needs our attention and solution. You use a lot of data to show our situation and the progress we have made, which has given me a deeper understanding of the three issues. It is worth mentioning that I don’t think enough attention has been paid to psychological issues in China. In fact, with the acceleration of people’s pace of life and the increase in stress, many people need psychological assistance, but the proportion of them who are aware of their psychological problems and find a professional psychologist is not large. In addition, child health and the spread of knowledge about infectious diseases are issues that we need to address. thanks for your introduction!
By the way, I love your blog coz it’s soooooo beautiful and well-structured !!!

    1. Grateful to hear you like my blog😘I got the same feeling as yours in this unexpected 2019-nCoV crisis. Health is our most treasure and without it we can achieve nothing. The psychological issues in China you mentioned inspired me. I also think it is an an issue that needs more attention. More needs to be done to encourage people to actively seek psychological help.

  6. I like your layout, especially those novel pictures put into your blog. As what you have said, health is the capital of everything for we human beings. We should focus on the health of children, for their immunity are weaker than that of adults. Maybe the most effective way to solve this problem is to seek for government, and ask them to provide health insurance for all of the citizens.

    1. Thanks for your appreciation. Hope the pictures in my post have help for your better understanding and attention. I think seeking the government help is one solution but still with some troubles. For example, we should figure out a way to guarantee that the government’s help can be accurately implemented to the target children.

  7. It seems that beautiful typesetting will be the constant advantage of your article. Indeed, health involves many different aspects. You introduced us to the early death of children, serious infectious diseases and the birth of insecure women. They have one thing in common —— a high risk of death. This is enough to make us realize that the problem is heavy.

    Like

    1. Yes, your sum up is exactly right. These 3 types of health issues are all of high death risk that we should raise our attention and act with solution as soon as possible. Also thanks for your appreciation.

  8. The vast majority of our earth’s surface is the ocean, which has a significant impact on the environment. You helped us understand the impact of plastics and carbon dioxide on the ocean. It’s a little scary. Plastics and carbon dioxide seem to be inevitable in our industrial development. Will the marine ecosystem suddenly collapse after reaching a certain threshold?

    Like

    1. Smart thinking on environment protection and I also agree that we should pay attention to the marine ecosystem. Though environment protection can somehow promote human health, I still wonder do you post this comment in the wrong place😂
